In the Vanderbilts' day, guests at Biltmore were celebrated in the finest style. Sometimes that meant a telegram to New York City, requesting that a shipment of Blue Point oysters or another exotic delicacy be sent on the overnight train to Biltmore. More often, guests enjoyed the bounty of the estate itself, including fresh beef and poultry, a wide array of fruits and vegetables, and dairy products from the estate's prize-winning Jersey herd.
